I’ve spent more than 13 years building a career around one thing: knowing how to get the shot, whatever the environment.

From weddings and live music to sport, events, portraits and commercial campaigns, I’ve worked in situations where moments happen once, pressure is high and there is no opportunity for a second take. That experience has taught me how to read a room, anticipate what is about to happen and create photographs that feel natural, considered and full of life.

Over the years, I’ve photographed close to 300 weddings across the UK and abroad, alongside sold-out concerts, professional athletes, restaurant launches, private events and high-profile occasions. Whether I’m working in a packed venue, on the touchline, inside a busy kitchen or in the middle of a wedding day, I bring the same focus, preparation and attention to detail.

My career began in music, documenting K Koke through live shows, music videos, behind-the-scenes access and personal milestones. That led to further work with artists including Krept & Konan, as well as photographing the launch of their restaurant, Crepes & Cones.

Since then, my work has expanded across food, lifestyle, branding, press, events and sport. I’ve photographed occasions including the Sky Arts Awards in 2017 and the closure of the iconic London Studios in 2018, working in environments where discretion, timing and consistency matter just as much as creativity.

I originally worked under the name Shot by Jay. As my work developed and grew far beyond its beginnings in music, I brought everything together under my own name: By Jake Johnson.

Weddings became a major part of my career after I began second shooting with Carly Brown Photography. What started as another area of photography quickly became something I took seriously. A wedding day demands almost every skill a photographer can have: portraiture, documentary storytelling, lighting, organisation, people skills and the ability to stay calm when plans inevitably change.

That ability to adapt is a huge part of how I work. I’m confident taking control when direction is needed, but equally comfortable stepping back and allowing moments to unfold naturally. I know how to make people feel relaxed, how to work quickly without rushing and how to deliver consistently even when the conditions are difficult.

Clients trust me because I turn up prepared, understand what is expected and take responsibility for the result. I don’t just arrive with a camera and hope for good photographs. I plan carefully, watch constantly and make decisions with purpose.

Whether I’m photographing a wedding, a live performance, a sporting event or a commercial campaign, the aim is always the same: to create powerful, honest photographs that capture the atmosphere of the moment and stand the test of time.
